A priori, journalistic content should be excellent for the positioning of a website, these are news texts, which easily go viral, which get a good number of links and which also arouse great interest in all types of audiences, and yet this is not the case, journalistic content is practically irrelevant for Google, especially since the European Union issued a directive regarding the copyright of this type of text.
What we consider journalistic content
Journalistic content is any news text that has been broadcast by a media outlet, in this case, on the Internet.
There is an infinite amount of journalistic content on the Internet, whether original or linked, and yet Google barely pays attention to it; in fact, it has almost no impact on positioning.
The European Union's copyright directive
The European Union issued a directive in the middle of this year, based on the copyright of the press, which the European institutions seek to protect the intellectual authors of the work, preventing the use of 99 acres database without paying royalties or citing sources.
This new EU law joins the various national laws, most of which are aimed at protecting the original content of newspapers in digital media.
The problem with snippets
Until recently, Google displayed news content in snippets, however, these news items were not original Google content, but rather links to other media outlets.
On the one hand, these snippets are displayed within the search engine itself, however, the law does not make clear whether Google must pay the original publishers a royalty for using news on its website.
The result is that Google has given up on most of its news services. In fact, Google News has not been operating in Spain for years, due to the American company's fear of being forced to pay royalties to the various media outlets it links to.
SEO news
As we can see, Google's development as a news aggregator has brought it close to having to pay millions in copyright fees. The search engine's response has been to cut back on its news-related options and also to greatly reduce the specific weight that journalistic content has in relation to SEO.
Google does not generally seem to give much importance to this type of content, and the SEM percentages of online stores are infinitely higher than those of the media, so Google seems to be in no hurry to regain the weight of news in its parameters.
