Until now, Japanese companies have been evaluated based on the number of hours an employee has worked. However, as remote work and more flexible schedules become the norm, this system no longer makes sense. Instead, managers need to focus on the specific results each employee is producing and assess whether the results are consistent with the time spent.

More generally, as companies become more focused on achieving results, we’re seeing a shift from a seniority system (employees get promoted the longer they stay in the organization) to a meritocracy (people who are truly skilled and make the greatest contribution are rewarded with high status).

Since organizations demand measurable results, what skills should marketing professionals hone and in what direction should their careers move?

We believe there are two paths for marketers to thrive in this era of fast-paced change.

One is to become an expert in a specific field and produce twice the cameroon telegram number database results of a generalist marketer. The second is to belong to an organization and demonstrate systemized skills that will improve and enhance the entire organization.

The advantage of the former is that by becoming an expert in a niche field, you will become someone with unique skills within the organization. If you ever want to change jobs, more high-paying expert positions will be open to you. Also, if you aspire to start your own business, your unique skills in marketing will undoubtedly come in handy.

On the other hand, the second option allows you to leverage the knowledge/experience you already have to reform your current organization. As mentioned above, as working styles become more diverse, being able to flexibly change organizational styles is a big challenge for businesses. Therefore, “systemizing skills”, such as maximizing the synergies of people working together and structuring these effects so that others can do the same, will be valuable in organizations.
