When linking externally , don't just link for the sake of it. Use links to other pages that are truly relevant to your readers.

Good external links tend to point to related content. It is a very good practice to link your articles to statistics pages, infographics, videos, etc.

Search engines like Google want to provide their users with the most relevant results to their query. Therefore, when external links come from websites belonging to the same niche, Google understands the relevance of your content and its popularity, which results in a higher SERP ranking.

Link to reputable sources
Make sure you link to a website that contains relevant, trustworthy information and is authoritative beyond any doubt.

If your links lead to pages with clickbait or unprofessional content, it will decrease your readers' trust and could negatively affect how search engines rank your content.

If you absolutely must link to web pages with content you don't trust enough, use nofollow tags to tell search engine crawlers that the linked page should not be associated with your page.

The most important, however, is to give the visitor greater control over navigation and improve the experience, allowing them to easily return to your content whenever they want, or leaving further information for the end, once they have read all your content.
