If you like to stay up to date with the most current facts related to digital security, just look at what Fortinet, through its platform, FortiGuard Labs, released a few days ago, during the Fortinet Cybersecurity Summit 2023, held in São Paulo.
The information presented reveals that cyberattack attempts in Brazil and Latin America fell in the first half of this year and became more complex.
According to the report, in Brazil alone, there were 23 billion cyberattack attempts mexico number lookup compared to 31.5 billion in the same period in 2022. In the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, there were 63 billion attack attempts in the region, now, in 2023, compared to 137 billion, the previous year.
However, amid the encouraging data, one factor is cause for concern: the complexity of the attempted attacks. “There are fewer attacks, but they cause much greater damage. They are much more specific in what they want, and with a smaller number, they can cause much greater damage,” says Frederico Tostes, country manager of Fortinet Brazil.
As the threat report points out, ransomware attacks, used for extortion, by blocking victims' data and servers, are increasingly targeted and sophisticated.
In addition, malicious techniques used by hackers and cybercriminals to exploit security flaws in software or systems within companies are also on the rise. In the first half of 2023, more than 10,000 unique vulnerabilities were discovered, 68% more than five years ago.
Tostes also emphasizes that “the sophistication of tools and the high level of targeting of cyberattacks is one of the main insights we take from the new FortiGuard Labs numbers. The sector faces a major challenge related to the shortage of cybersecurity skills, which has affected companies around the world, especially in Brazil. Globally, the number of organizations suffering breaches due to talent shortages has increased.”
