The list goes on and on. Eric Schmidt said in his book How Google Works: "Even if the CEO is the coolest, he still needs a mentor. Even Olympic gold medalists have coaches."

Types of Mentoring
According to the Merriam Webster English dictionary, a mentor is a trusted advisor. Unlike a coach, their work is long-term. They never give specific and clear instructions that the mentee must follow. Only recommendations. In simple terms, mentoring is learning something new in a profession and developing the partner’s personal qualities.

There are several types of mentoring. Here is the classification of the Washington University in St. Louis Research:

Formal . Structured programs of work with mentees. Forms of training can be different, including reporting.

Natural . An experienced specialist provides support to a newcomer within the framework of his professional competencies. Training of this format takes place in a work environment.

Peer mentoring. Professionals with equal experience exchange information and professional achievements. As a rule, they have a lot in common and always have something to discuss and learn from each other.

Situational . Help from a professional when needed.

Supervisory . An experienced employee strictly controls the newcomer and makes comments in case of mistakes. This type of mentoring is not the most effective, as it does not promote effective communication.

Upon request. In cases where a company employee has a need for mentoring.

A mentor in a company is not a position, but a prestigious activity of sharing experience. It is beneficial for any organization to have mentors, since without additional investments the professionalism of employees increases, a friendly, stable team is formed. The percentage of dismissals in such companies is low.
