In this post I would like to address the issue of how to record tutorials. In our company, we often record tutorials for clients, e.g. on website maintenance .

This matter may seem trivial to many, after all, all you have to do is turn on the recording and talk about a given topic... Unfortunately, it is actually a process that requires a thorough analysis of many aspects and a carefully prepared script.

Learn more about the recipient
First of all, we should analyze who the recipient of our videos will be. It doesn't hurt to ask about things that, for example, cause them problems in using our product or how they use it. We do all this to adapt 100% to the recipient, which will translate into their satisfaction while watching the guide. Thanks to this, we are sure that they will get as much out of it as possible!

Prepare a script
If you want to avoid unnecessary re-recording of materials, prepare a script ! Many people who record guides record them and speak in them without previous preparation. We are not talking about buying microphones for a lot of money (at least at first), but about equipment that will allow you to be heard without any noise or buzzing. With this in mind, avoid all built-in microphones in e.g. laptops at all costs. If you do not have a good microphone, a good way would be to use the one in your smartphone, because these can surprise you with their quality!

Practice your script!
In order to make the best recording possible, a very good option would be to practice recording the entire material . We will learn at what points it will be worth making some corrections. During the recording of subsequent attempts, we will have a much better mastery of the script, thanks to which we will record our material with great ease and accuracy!

Keep a consistent pace
Try to spend an equal amount of time on each topic . If you think something you're presenting is very simple, it doesn't mean you need to speed up that section. Each step is equally important to the viewer of your tutorial, so give them the same amount of time and attention!

Don't overwhelm yourself with the amount of material!
Be very careful not to overdo it with the amount of material in one episode. Putting too much information at once can mislead the viewer, and in the worst case, they may give up watching. Therefore, try to include the most important information in these 2-10 minutes of your guide without unnecessary additional knowledge.

Work on your presentation
Remember that you want to engage the recipient in your guide. Therefore, try to avoid a sad and boring style of speaking. Keep in mind that you are the most important element of this guide, because you are the one who encourages (or discourages) the recipient to watch the material. You can choose formal or casual language depending on the preferences of your target group.
