How does the Instagram algorithm rank stories?

Post by Dimaeiya333 »

Based on these signals, the feed algorithm will try to guess which posts are most likely to trigger user engagement. It prioritizes the likelihood that the user will engage with one of the following five interactions:

Observe the post for several seconds
Save this post to your favorites
Comment on the post
Give it a “like”
Click on the profile
And as Instagram explains , the platform often tries to avoid showing too many posts from the same person or too many suggested posts in a row.

The stories and ads people see on their Instagram profiles correspond t it directors managers mailing lists o the people they have chosen to follow. To organize Instagram stories, the platform takes into account the following elements:

View History: Instagram reviews how frequently the user views the stories of a particular account.
Engagement history: Consider how often Instagram audiences interact with an account’s stories, such as liking or sending a direct message.
Link: To do this, review the relationship with the author of the story, including the possibility that they are friends or family.

How does the Instagram algorithm rank posts in the Explore tab?
The Explore tab is designed to introduce users to new content and brands. On this page, Instagram collects the photos and videos that a person is likely to like based on their previous behavior on the app (views, likes, comments, check-ins). Once the app has found a number of photos to suggest to the user, it ranks them primarily based on four types of signals:

Post insights : These signals are based on how often and how quickly users like, comment, save, and share the post.
Activity in the Explore section: If the user interacts with a specific type of post while browsing, Instagram will try to show you more content similar to that post.
The user's interaction history with the post's author - Again, it's highly likely that the user has never interacted with the author. If this is the case, the post will stand out even more.
Content Author Information – This data is based on how often other users with similar interests have interacted with the post author in previous weeks.
How does the Instagram algorithm classify Reels?
Unlike Stories and the Feed, Reels are there to entertain the user. Most of the content offered does not come from accounts that the user follows. To rank them, the algorithm focuses specifically on signals related to the individual's appreciation of the video. The main signals used by the Reels algorithm are:

User Activity – These signals analyze user behavior toward reels they have recently liked, commented on, or saved.
The user's interaction history with the reel's author : Although most of the content offered does not come from accounts that the user follows, if they have interacted with that account in the past, the reel will appear especially prominently.
Reel information : This data comes strictly from the reel itself (music or audio tracks chosen, type of content, viewing time, average engagement, popularity…)
Reel Author Insights – These signals will be used to highlight a creator who produces content that is liked by their audience, judging by the popularity and overall engagement they achieve.
