Key roles in data integration projects

Post by shukla7789 »

In this post we review the main roles involved in a data integration project.

In practice, however, there are many factors that require ad hoc adaptation to adjust the project to the particularities and needs of each case. This is what happens, precisely, when defining the roles and responsibilities in data integration projects. In this sense, the roles depend on different factors, such as the needs of the clients, the budget, deadlines, the parties involved or, for example, the areas affected.

The needs and particularities of each project, in short, will determine the roles. The casuistry is very varied: there are projects of different duration, more or less critical in infrastructure, and this inevitably affects, since the roles involved will depend largely on the resources with which they are addressed and the type of project to be carried out. A project that is made from resources provided to the client to operate on its own will not be the same as one carried out externally and delivered as a closed project, in which case the person responsible for the final result will be the supplier.

Data Integrity and BI: The Strategic Value of Integration

The three roles of integration initiatives
Despite the inevitable influence of variables such as moj database mentioned, we can establish a minimum standard of roles that data integration initiatives should include, including the project manager, the integration consultant, and the architect. Their basic functions are the following:

Project Manager : This is a key role. He is the project director, responsible for the project from start to finish. His management covers the entire project cycle: organization, execution and control, closure. His final objective is none other than to achieve the project objectives, within the estimated timeframes, with the required quality and service level certification. He will guarantee compliance with the methodology and documentation and will also be in charge of managing the project risks, as well as controlling its scope.

Integration Consultant : This consultant is responsible for developing and building the model and client requirements, which must be reflected in the project. He/she is also responsible for compliance with the plan, quality and level of service required by the project, as well as coordinating and solving critical points of the project that affect what was planned. He/she also has the function of keeping the Project Manager informed about the progress of the requirements that have been assigned to him/her.
