Guide to perform a complete keyword search

Post by shammis606 »

The rise of SEO strategies has meant that in just a few years keywords have become much more specific search phrases than the simple terms that were once inserted in the Keywords meta-tag. This phenomenon forces webmasters to have tools that teach them the art of finding the right phrases to optimize their site. This guide to performing a complete keyword search answers that need.

But before we start:

Keep in mind that keyword research goes far beyond mom database selecting from your vocabulary the terms that you think customers will type when searching the web for the services or products your site offers. It is also important to know that Google's Keyword Planner omits many results that could be valuable; and you already know how keyword density helps your SEO strategies. It is a very useful tool, but if you leave it for the end of the consultation and use it according to certain instructions.

With the above in mind, let's continue.

Step 1. Identify and systematize market niches.

The starting point of this guide to carry out a complete keyword search is the identification of the market niches that float around yours . Knowing which market segment your business belongs to will lead you to obtain results that would never have crossed your mind.

What is a niche market?

According to Wikipedia, it is “ a marketing term used to refer to a portion of a market segment in which individuals have homogeneous characteristics and needs…” [2] .

How do they identify themselves?

Let's say your business specializes in selling dog houses made of aluminum and fiberglass. Someone interested in buying a dog house could search through hundreds of possible combinations for phrases like “Pet Supplies,” “Dog Breeders,” etc. At first glance, they have nothing to do with the product you offer, but if you analyze them carefully, you will see that they are market niches closely related to yours (i.e. keywords).

Step 2. The Forums.

Forums are a useful tool for keyword research. There we find groups with common interests that provide important information at all times.

Simply go to the BoardReader.com site and search for the forums that interest you. In our case, we would be looking for forums related to the market niches identified above. The key in this part of the research is to keep in mind that each of the sections into which the forum is divided is a possible market niche and/or a high-value keyword.

Step 3. Wikipedia.

No guide to performing a complete keyword search can omit consulting Wikipedia (it is the website with the largest amount of information on any subject). There, the search is done from the general to the specific. That is to say, first the most general keyword is searched, which in our case would be “dog”. Based on the results obtained, the subcategories of the table of contents, the references and appendices are entered. If you pay attention to what you are searching for, you will obtain a number of keywords that would never have occurred to you.

After completing these three steps, you will have enough information to focus on identifying the most appropriate keywords for your SEO strategy.

Now it's time to use the Google Keyword Planner (for me, the best of the 5 tools to research keywords and related content)The objective data it provides will help you make sense of your research and choose the keywords that are most appropriate for your interests. However, there are certain recommendations that must be followed - which are part of another guide - so as not to fall into the trap of choosing phrases or terms that will only make your site appear at the bottom of the search results.
