Three Steps to Get Started with Local by Flywheel

The first thing you need to do is go to the tool's homepage , download the latest version, and install it. Then, you can move on to the first step.

Step 1: Set up a local test environment
When you launch the application you can create your local site by clicking the + icon at the bottom left:

On the next screen, you will be given the option to choose a name and domain for your site. You can choose any domain name and suffix and the application will modify the hosts file to make it work. In our case, we chose ambienteditest.local:

Local by Flywheel will automatically create a directory to store your site files, but you can also set it to any folder you want. When you are finished with these settings, click the Continue tab below.

In this tab, you will be able to choose which versions of PHP and MySQL to use on your site, as well as the type of server. We recommend using the latest versions of these tools, along with your preferred web server ( NGinx/Apache ):

Click Continue. Here you can enable Multisite for your installation. You can also choose the administrator username, password and email:

Once you have customized these settings, go ahead and click on the Add Site button in the bottom right corner.

Now, you can sit back and relax while Local by Flywheel gets your site up and running (it shouldn’t take long). Once it’s done, your new WordPress site will appear in the left column of the app, and you can click on its name to review its details:

To start tinkering with your site, you will need to log in to your dashboard as you normally would. If you chose the same domain name as us, you would do this by typing ambienteditest.local/wp-adminin the address bar.
